Blessings Follow Unity

In Psalm 133, God promises that blessing will follow unity. At the last Ministry Area Council (MAC) meeting, the MAC spent half an hour thinking about what it means for us to be united as a Ministry Area (MA). We were able to identify very quickly what unity does not mean.

Unity doesn’t mean doing everything the same. Unity is not the same as uniformity. Instead, we thought about how lots of strands are woven together into one fabric with warp and weft. The warp is there to provide structure and strength. The weft runs perpendicular and adds the vibrancy of colour and design.

In our MA, there are some aspects of our community that serve as the warp, such as the MAC, the Ministry Area Leader (MAL), our governance and mission; but, vitally, our churches and communities add colour and distinction as we weave a beautiful tapestry of worship and ministry. The result is fantastic. We’ve seen it this week as different people from across the MA have come together to play their part in our Christmas outreach project, the Christmas Tree Festival.

It was so moving to be in Nolton church on Monday evening, as the band rehearsed their carols, and folks almost every church played their own unique role in bringing it together.  It demonstrated that are building a united community; a community that is prayerful, evangelistic, generous, & hospitable. I look forward to seeing you at the festival this weekend.
