All Saints, Pen-y-fai

Introduction

All Saints' Church is situated at the very heart of the lovely village of Penyfai. The beautiful church building and all interior fittings were gifted to the villagers of Penyfai by Mr Robert W Llewellyn of Court Colman House. It was constructed, the work beginning in the year 1899, as a thanksgiving offering for the recovery of his wife from serious illness and was consecrated on 23rd November 1903. The church is dedicated to All Saints' as one of Mr. Llewellyn's sons was born on All Saints' Day. The Llewellyn family travelled widely in Europe and Mr Llewellyn brought back many ideas, which contributed to the church design, from the Continent.

A traditional service of Holy Communion using the modern Church in Wales rite with an organ accompaniment and hymns, supplemented with non eucharistic celebrations, is held on  Sunday mornings at 11am. The services last approximately one hour and following these refreshments are frequently served.

The village War Memorial was installed and dedicated in the church yard in 2018. This draws villagers together in the Service of Remembrance each November. Additional services of celebration and festival are held throughout the year culminating in December community carol singing and the First Mass of Christmas.

The church provides opportunities for fun and fellowship in many social activities throughout the year. These include monthly 'Warm Welcome' lunches, coffee mornings, cake sales, entertainment sessions, musical presentations, shared meal experiences, coach trips, community fayres and celebrations. An exceptional number of charities are supported annually.

Children

A Sunday Group of  enthusiastic young people meets in our small church community room during the first part of the morning service, rejoining the congregation following their participation in communion. At the close of the service, just prior to the last hymn, the young people are delighted to share what they have learned to the delight of everybody present.

Many of our Sunday Group members access the Ministry Area confirmation classes in preparation for confirmation by the Bishop. Some of our young people have also taken up the opportunity to become enthusiastic bell ringing students under the tuition of our dedicated team of bell ringers. The highlight of the church year for Penyfai village children, not to mention some adults, is the magical annual Christingle service which they anticipate each year as Christmas approaches

Facilities and accessibility

The aim of everybody at All Saints' Church is to be warmly welcoming and totally inclusive. The pathway to access the church is newly refurbished, and smooth, and there is a ramp access to the building. In addition to this, there is always the availability of a 'resident' wheelchair.

There are many parking possibilities in the surrounding area of the church but most especially  in the car park at the 'Pheasant' public house, which is directly opposite the church, and where the management are so supportive of All Saints' Church and all of its associated activities.
