St Teilo’s, Merthyr Mawr

Introduction

St Teilo’s can be found in the beautiful village of Merthyr Mawr. It was built between 1848 and 1852; however the building stands on the site of an earlier church – possibly dating from Medieval times. Our beautiful church provides a sanctuary of peace and tranquillity in which to worship and where we can provide hospitality.

We welcome many visitors to enjoy tea/coffee and cake with us and all comment on the special atmosphere they experience in the church. Other visitors are able to make use of the church during the daytime for prayer or meditation as we are proud to be an open church. The churchyard is renowned for its display of bluebells in the spring and also the exhibition of stones dating from Medieval times and earlier.

We run many activities to welcome people to St Teilo’s including a monthly Craft and Chat. There is always a warm welcome at St Teilo’s.

Children

Children are very welcome. We have a social area next to the font in the church which has several toy boxes that can be explored by visiting children. If we know children are attending, we will make every effort to produce resources to match the service theme.

Facilities and Accessibility

There is a small pull-in area at the church gate which can be used for parking, and it is also possible to park on the road either just before or just after the church. Alternatively, there is a free car park a short stroll away down by the river.

The path to the church porch is modern and constructed of material with more grip. The path is illuminated at night.

To access the church there are two small steps. Assistance can be provided to negotiate these before or after a service. We are currently working on plans to create a more accessible entrance, alongside providing better toilet facilities.

Inside the church there is one step up to the chancel – assistance is provided during services or communion can be brought to you in the pews.
